Summer Term 2

We hope you had a fantastic  break! Please continue to support by bringing your child to school every day and on time, reading at home and producing wonderful pieces of homework. We have got another very exciting term planned for the children. We will be continuing the term with  "Lets race to space" curriculum. This is a busy term with lots of exciting things planned and we hope your children enjoy it as much as we do. We look forward to seeing you in school, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask your class teacher.

Thank you smiley

This term children in Albany class will be learning to write longer narratives, in the form of instructions, diary entries and letters, as well as focusing on developing their handwriting. They will be studying different books about Space, starting with Sidney, Stella and the Moon.

In Elton class, we are going to look at poetry. By the end of the term we will have looked at different poetry, created our own poem and we are even going to perform our poems to each other.

In Maths this half term in Albany the children will develop their knowledge of Fractions, Place Value to 100, Time and Money. Children will have an opportunity to choose one of the challenges, mild, hot, volcano or super sizzling so that they begin to show greater level of responsibility for their own learning.

In Elton class we are going to revisit the areas we have already learnt this year and develop our skills further in each area. We will be telling the time to 5 minute intervals, looking at fractions 1/2 1/3 1/4 and more.

Our overall theme this term is 'Lets race to space'. This term the children will be exploring if Tim Peake could have met an alien. Listen for the children telling you about the day things from space crashed into our playground and Tim Peake leaving us a video message.

This term, Year 2 will be doing PE on Wednesday. Please ensure that children have PE kit and outdoor shoes, as we may be doing some outdoor PE this term. Year 1 will be doing Games this term, the children will need a P.E kit and outdoor shoes, as some outdoor P.E may take place. Year 1 P.E will take place on Wednesdays.  Thank you.

We ask that your child has their book bag with them every day. We encourage you to read with your children at home to win one of our RED TED bears and accessories. Please write and sign your child's reading record each time you do - this helps me to determine whether the reading has taken place in school or at home and ensures I can keep a reliable record for the end of term. If your child has finished their book please change them in Camelot. We will aim to read with your child at least once every 2 weeks.

Children in Albany class have weekly spellings. These will now be given out on a Friday so children have the weekend to practise, then children will have a spelling test the following Friday. Please practise with your children, this will encourage children to use the correct spellings in their writing. Find the spellings below.

Don't Forget

Keep a look out for our homework menu's and newsletters which will keep you up to date with what we are learning this term. Please bring in any work that your child has done so this can be shared with the rest of the class.
