Djanogly Sherwood Academy

Where Everyone Belongs

Hedley

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to the Hedley class page. Here you will find information all about Year Two. There is lots of learning and new activities updated regularly on the class page. Miss Makings and I look forward to seeing all the children in the new academic year. In the mean time we would like to set our new class of September 2020 a Summer task. This will help us get to know you a bit more. Can you have a go at drawing or painting a family picture? We want you to bring this in on your first day back at school.

In the mean time we will be calling you to introduce ourselves so if you have any questions write them down and we will answer them when we speak to you.

See you soon!

'Where Everyone Belongs'

At Djanogly Sherwood we know that things are challenging and different right now we wanted to help by sharing some good resources. Here is a video you could watch and share with your children explaining how to talk to children about race and diversity. We will also be sharing lessons on Seesaw through some great books about diversity. We hope that this helps. Remember our strap line at Sherwood is ‘Where everyone belongs’.

In Summer 2 we will continue with home learning looking at Australia as our curriculum theme. In English we are looking at Lost and Found, we will then move on to look at Flotsam. We will continue to use BBC Bitesize to support our Maths learning as well as linking spellings and handwriting together for you to practice.

You will be receiving phone calls from your class teacher throughout this half term where you can discuss anything you need to. You can contact us through seesaw or the school office should you need us for anything before this time.

Enjoy the term!

HOME LEARNING FOR CHILDREN

We have put together some activities for children to do at home whilst they are unable to come to school. We all want our children to be happy, safe and still learning at this time.  It will also help you to keep them occupied at home for an extended period of time.

This page we will be updated with new work or messages weekly on Tuesdays. For parents of children with SEND please see the information posted by our SENCo here.

Please keep checking and keep you and your family healthy.

Best wishes from the Year 2 team

Home learning tasks

Home learning tasks are now being set on the Seesaw app. All children have been sent a password for this. Please head over to Seesaw to explore the online learning tasks.

Music

Have a go at playing this tune (attached file) on the virtual piano!

 https://www.apronus.com/music/flashpiano.htm

The notes on the piano are labelled so follow the words on the sheet attached below in the resources section. Play the note shown above the words. If you're finding it tricky, try singing along to help you remember the rhythm of the melody! If you have a real piano/keyboard/glockenspiel at home, try to use that as well.

R.E

This week in RE we are thinking about Christian celebrations. Can you think of any?

Also try:

  • Research a type of sea creature and make a fact file.
  • Imagine you are a fish like Nemo, and you got lost. Write a story about your adventure. What happened? Who did you meet?
  • Can you write a message in a bottle?
  • Make an underwater quiz for your family.
  • Design and make an aquarium out of a shoe box.
  • Draw a sea creature and then paint or colour using pencils, crayons or felt tip pens.
  • Use an Atlas to locate the five oceans of the world.

  • Find out some facts about the ocean. Where is the deepest part of the ocean? How deep is it?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z849q6f/articles/zmqwscw

  • Research the food chain of a sea creature of your choice.
  • Draw fish of different lengths and seaweed of different heights. Cut them out and put in order of height and length. Can you measure your pictures with a ruler in cm?

Remember to look after your mind and body by going outside for fresh air, washing your hands, eating healthily, drinking water, taking screen breaks and being kind and helpful to your family!
