Djanogly Sherwood Academy

Where Everyone Belongs

Welcome …

On behalf of  Djanogly Sherwood Academy’s Governing Body, I would like say welcome to our new children and parents and welcome back, for another year, to all our returning children and parents.

My name is Shonagh Reid. I have been an active member of the Governing Body for some years and have recently taken on the role as Chair. My background is in teaching and educational leadership and I currently work as a consultant helping organisations on their equity, diversity and inclusion journeys. I am a person that you can talk to and a person that can represent the core values of what we all believe. I have a real passion for education and aim to support the school as well as being the champion of the children and ensuring the school is doing the best for all of them.

What do the Governors do?

The role of the Governing Body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

  • determine the visions and values of the Academy
  • ensure there is a strategy in place to achieving this vision
  • approve the policies for achieving the Academy aims and objectives and monitor their implementation
  • monitor exclusions and review when they occur
  • have an overview and challenge on performance areas of the Academy including safeguarding, standards, curriculum and financial spend
  • be a source of challenge and support to the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School (a critical friend)
