Djanogly Sherwood Academy

Where Everyone Belongs

Leaders at all levels

Here at Sherwood, we embrace a vibrant School Council program, an integral platform for our young leaders to actively shape the trajectory of our school's journey toward excellence. Designed to foster student empowerment and engagement, our School Council convenes with enthusiasm once every half term to deliberate, collaborate, and decide on initiatives that will elevate our school's overall experience. At the heart of this initiative lies the voice of every student, as each class elects a dedicated representative to serve as their advocate and contributor to the Council's discussions. Through these regular meetings, our students not only learn the principles of democracy and decision-making but also witness firsthand the impact of their contributions on the betterment of our school community. The School Council program stands as a testament to our commitment to nurturing responsible leadership, promoting active participation, and instilling a sense of ownership in each child, as they work collectively to create a school environment that is inclusive, dynamic, and constantly evolving for the better.

At Djanogly Sherwood Academy, a powerful force for positive change emerges through our dedicated Change for Good group. Meeting every half term, this passionate team of students comes together to drive tangible improvements in our environment and champion climate action. Through insightful discussions, innovative ideas, and purposeful action plans, these young change-makers proactively address ecological challenges and promote sustainable practices within our school community. From organising litter picking, to initiating energy-saving initiatives, the Change for Good group showcases the profound impact that collective efforts can have on our planet. With their unwavering commitment to fostering environmental stewardship, they inspire their peers and remind us all that even small actions can create a ripple of transformation for the betterment of our world.

At Djanogly Sherwood Academy, we embrace the spirit of curiosity and communication through our engaging Journalist programme. Meeting once every half term, our budding journalists gather to craft a vibrant newsletter that captures the pulse of our school's activities and achievements. With pens as their tools and creativity as their guiding star, these young writers curate stories that spotlight the rich tapestry of experiences within our school community. In addition to the written word, we also have a talented group of students who spearhead our YouTube channel, adeptly translating their ideas into captivating videos that showcase our school's essence. Through these outlets, our students not only cultivate their storytelling skills but also hone their ability to effectively convey ideas in diverse formats. This programme underscores our commitment to fostering confident communicators, empowering our students to share their perspectives, celebrate milestones, and extend the vibrant spirit of our school far beyond its walls.

At Djanogly Sherwood Academy, nurturing the holistic development and emotional well-being of our students is paramount, exemplified through our dedicated Wellbeing Ambassador Programme. Convening every half term, our selected Wellbeing Ambassadors assemble with a shared mission: to cultivate a nurturing and positive environment that enhances the emotional and social well-being of every student. Through thoughtful discussions, interactive workshops, and collaborative projects, these ambassadors champion strategies that promote self-care, empathy, and resilience within our school community. By fostering open dialogue and implementing creative initiatives, our Wellbeing Ambassador Programme not only equips our students with essential life skills but also fosters a sense of unity and support that enriches every aspect of our school experience. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to cultivating a school culture where well-being is prioritized, empowering our students to navigate life's challenges with confidence and compassion.

Here at Djanogly Sherwood, we take pride in our innovative Digital Leaders program, a cornerstone of our commitment to preparing students for the digital landscape of the future. Meeting with excitement and curiosity once every half term, our Digital Leaders gather to explore and share their expertise in utilising the technology that enriches our educational environment, such as our Sphero coding system, VR headsets, and iPads and Chromebooks. Through hands-on workshops, collaborative projects, and interactive discussions, these young trailblazers develop a deep understanding of the tools at their disposal, becoming proficient guides for their peers and teachers alike. In an age where technology is omnipresent, our Digital Leaders not only become adept users but also responsible digital citizens, learning about online safety, ethical use, and effective digital communication. This program embodies our dedication to nurturing tech-savvy leaders who harness the power of innovation to enhance learning experiences, demonstrating that technology, when harnessed wisely, can be a powerful tool for exploration, creativity, and meaningful connection.

Our school takes an active role in fostering civic responsibility through our Mini-Police group. Meeting once every half term, these enthusiastic students collaborate closely with our community officers, gaining valuable insights into the multifaceted roles of police officers and the importance of maintaining law and order. Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, and community action projects, our Mini-Police members learn about teamwork, safety, and the significance of serving their community. This initiative not only empowers them with knowledge about the world of law enforcement but also instills in them a deep sense of responsibility and leadership. By bridging the gap between our school and the local police force, our Mini-Police group becomes a living example of how collaboration can create a stronger, safer, and more connected community.

At Djanogly Sherwood Academy, inclusivity and unity take center stage through our vibrant WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) group. Gathering every half term, a dedicated team of students collaborates under the banner of creating an environment where every child feels an unbreakable sense of belonging. This compassionate group comes together to mindmap, strategise, and implement initiatives aimed at fostering an inclusive atmosphere. Whether it's extending a warm welcome to new students, providing essential support to English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners, or actively promoting an anti-bullying ethos, our WEB members exemplify empathy and leadership. Through their actions, they ensure that every child is not only heard but celebrated, and that our school remains a safe and nurturing space where diversity is embraced and unity is cherished. The WEB group is a living embodiment of our commitment to forging bonds, fostering understanding, and creating an environment where everyone truly belongs.
